چکیده
Status of This Memo This memo provides information for the Internet community. It does not specify an Internet standard of any kind. Distribution of this memo is unlimited. Abstract This document provides suggestions for measuring OSPF single router control plane convergence. Its initial emphasis is on the control plane of a single OSPF router. We do not address forwarding plane performance. NOTE: In this document, the word "convergence" relates to single router control plane convergence only.

Considerations When Using Basic OSPF Convergence Benchmarks
This memo provides information for the Internet community. It does not specify an Internet standard of any kind. Distribution of this memo is unlimited. Abstract This document discusses the applicability of various tests for measuring single router control plane convergence, specifically in regard to the Open Shortest First (OSPF) protocol. There are two general sections in this document, the f...
متن کاملHot Potatoes Heat Up BGP Routing
The separation of intradomain and interdomain routing is a key feature of the Internet routing architecture. However, intradomain routing protocols such as OSPF and IS-IS do have a (sometimes significant) influence on the path-selection process in Border Gateway Protocol (BGP). In this paper, we argue that researchers should revisit the “interface” between the two tiers of the Internet routing ...
متن کاملOSPF Performance and Optimization of Open Source Routing Software
OSPF (Open Shortest Path First) is a widely used intra-domain routing protocol in IP networks. Processing delays in OSPF implementations impact the time needed for both intra-domain and inter-domain routing to re-convergence after a topology change. The re-convergence capability of a router can be characterized by a performance index, referred to as switching time. We have built a test-bed and ...
متن کاملImproving Network Convergence Time and Network Stability of an OSPF-Routed IP Network
The loss of routing protocol control messages due to network congestion can cause peer failures in routers, leading to routing failures and network instability. We attempt to decrease the network convergence time in response to a node or link failure in a network and study its implications on network stability. We develop an algorithm to dynamically tune OSPF failure threshold based on the netw...
متن کاملHiding Transit-Only Networks in OSPF
A transit-only network is defined as a network connecting routers only. In OSPF, transit-only networks are usually configured with routable IP addresses, which are advertised in Link State Advertisements (LSAs) but are not needed for data traffic. In addition, remote attacks can be launched against routers by sending packets to these transit-only networks. This document presents a mechanism to ...
